Favourite Thing: I get a huge thrill whenever a look at a new protein structure, when I know I’m the first person looking at that shape in real detail.
What I do: I focus on finding out the shape of life’s fundamental molecules: proteins. That’s really important to understand their function and can also help develop targeted drugs to cure and prevent diseases.

Favourite Thing: Oh this is a hard one! There’s so many great things – from the day to day working with the animals, to getting a paper published, to going to conferences and presenting your experiments, to discovering something new! I can’t pick just one!
What I do: I study what motivates animals to perform various behaviour patterns, including both normal and abnormal behaviours.

Favourite Thing: Fieldwork!! I don’t get to do anywhere nearly enough fieldwork but it’s always so much fun to camp in really remote places where hardly any people ever go!!

Favourite Thing: Development of cool products, like working on my micro-autonomous robots. Also to push the team to think of how we can improve and optimise our designs.
What I do: As Head of Group for Systems Engineering at UKATC, I help to define both the processes and the requirements for future astronomical instruments. Working with diverse global teams, this is a challenging and stimulating role.
