• Question: does an unborn baby poo?

      Kind of – in that it produces waste that needs to be removed from its body through the umbilical cord, so it’s kind of like the mum is pooping for the unborn baby 😉

      No it doesn’t. the waste products it produces as it develops are taken out via the umbilical cord and are eliminated by the mum. It doesn’t eat, so there’s nothing to be digested.

      However, once the digestive system is developed, some waste material like dead cells accumulate in the intestine and that will be the baby’s first poop once it’s born.

      Err, well maybe not poo because they don’t eat solids so it’s probably just urine – they’ve got to get rid of it somehow but I think it stays in the womb (some of it anyway) and they swim around in it until they’re born, when it all comes out with the placenta [*pulls face*]. Pretty minging but as Frank Sinatra said That’s Life……
