  I’ve never actually seen a volcano blow up in real life but that’s probably a good thing because on the occasions when i have been visiting a volcano, i’ve usually been very close to them (i.e. climbing up them or camping on them) so if they’d have erupted whilst i was there i’d have been in a bit of trouble!! If i do see one explode, i’d like to be a safe distance from it!
  
  I have seen volcanoes smoking before, so these are volcanoes that have erupted fairly recently (say within a year or so) – the lava stays hot for quite a long time and often the top of the volcano vents gases and steam even if it isn’t actually exploding.
  
  Maybe when i go to Sicily in October I’ll see one of the volcanoes erupting 🙂
