In terms of its physical properties, ethanol is a very good solvent – which means it’s good at mixing and dissolving many different chemicals.

Unlike other alcohols with longer carbon chains and higher molecular weight, it mixes well with water. It also mixes well with many organic solvents like acetone, benzene and acetic acid. Because it has a polar group, it can dissolve ionic compounds such sodium and potassium hydroxides, magnesium , calcium or ammonium amongst others. But the ethanol molecule also has a nonpolar end, so it will also dissolve nonpolar substances, including most essential oils as well as many flavouring, colouring, and medicinal agents.

So, short answer is: lots! Organic solvents, water, ionic compounds, oils can all be mixed with ethanol. But mixing any chemicals should always be done with care and under trained supervision! 😉

I think you might be able to mix up ethonal with ethanol… 😉

Ummm, lemonade is nice, cola, tonic water….lol (Ethonal being what alcohol is made of)
You can dilute ethanol with water but once you add other chemicals to the mix, it stops being ethanol and starts being something else. Don’t ask me what – I have done organic chem in years! 🙂

Depends what kind of reaction you want to have! Going on the colour of my friend’s face when she has fish and beer together (ethanol is a type of alcohol), i wouldn’t suggest consuming the two together – not unless you want Rosey Nosey!!

I am not sure if I understand this question correctly, but anything can be mixed with ethanol it just depends on what you are looking to do or create. For instance ethanol can be made more acidic with the mixture of a higher PH chemical or can be made less acidic with the mixture of an alkaline. Mixed with certain chemicals and you could make a sparkler. Mixed with other chemicals you could make an endothermic reaction and recreate a volcano explosion. So to answer the question I must ask the question: What would you like to do with the ethanol???
