Oooo that’s tough. I think I’ll have to say elephants(both African and Asian) because in the wild they have such close family groups, live so long and spend a long time caring for their young – so lots of maternal behaviour. They’re also hard to breed in captivity and don’t live as long as in the wild so we’re obviously not satisfying their needs in captivity but noone is sure what we’re doing wrong. It’s an interesting but complex problem!
