      Hi there,

It’s a matter of thinking about energy consumption – do we really need this? wouldn’t it be more fun to go by bike or walk to go there? If every person could just give it a thought and reduce consumption to match his/her important needs, I think that would be a great step 😉

There are 2 levels action can be taken:

      1. Individually

It means reducing or carbon foot print by recycling, using energy efficient lighting, reduce car and plane usage, have heat efficient homes, just to name the most important but also quite easy steps.

      2. Nationally/Corporations

Countries need to agree to reduce pollution, encourage use of “green” energies, support development of alternative energy sources, safeguard wild life and pressure big corporations and companies to follow the same steps.

Basically, we need to change the way we use and abuse Earth’s resources. That requires a combined effort from everyone, but it must involve big decisions from the world’s leaders, as well as personal small steps.

      Hope that covers it! 😉

Depends what you mean by ‘we’? There’re lots of things that we can do personally to help reduce the amount of greehouse gases that we contribute to and although some things are quite well known to us these days (recycling, buying local produce, using public transport etc) there are many other things that you don’t realise have an impact – for example, all those England flags on people’s cars increase fuel consumption!! It’s the same as keeping your golf clubs in the boot all the time or never taking off the roof rack – all increase the drag on a car and hence increase the amount of fuel needed to power it.

But in terms of what the world needs to do collectively, have you seen the film ‘The Age of Stupid’? It’s a shocking insght into both the causes and impacts of climate change and I think every school should make their pupils watch it. I have to be honest, it is quite depressing at times, but it does also outline how we can realistically tackle climate change in the future. I highly recommend watching it….

Ban all transport which emits greenhouse gasses and also factories which do the same. That of course will imply the end of the so called global village because we won’t have electricity and power to run the powerful internet exchanges!!! 🙁

That’s a really tough one. Each individual doing something like recycling, reducing and meat consumption and increasing use of local goods helps but there needs to be bigger changes too – like an increase in wind farms (where practical) and government regulations on energy use and pollution with penalities for not following them. Hopefully people’s mind sets are changing and we will all automatically do things to reduce global warming. I think increasing public education is also a great idea.
