It really depends at what stage in the project I am. When we first have to produce protein and get crystals, I spend a lot of the time in the lab, setting up experiments. After I collect data, I spent most of the time at the computer, analysing the data, writing the scientific paper with our conclusions – that’s what I’m doing now! 😉 At that stage, we sometimes work from home – I do that when I have to write a report or a paper or prepare a talk. I need a bit of quiet to be able to concentrate and at work, there’s always people around, asking help and advise, so it’s hard to focus,
I do most of my work in an office – try not to work from home, to make sure I have a life outside work; and I don’t do lab work – I’m a danger in labs 🙂
My research actually takes place on a farm where I work, so I spend alot of time on the farm when I’m doing a project, other than that I do the rest of my work in an office on a computer 🙂
I do pretty much all of my work in the office, except when i go on fieldwork but that’s not very often. My opffice is huge open plan with about 30 people in it, althought here’s only ever about 15 people in at any one time. I wouldn’t like to work in my own office or at home because i’m too sociable and need to talk with people!!
